The song of a Hooded Warbler sounds like “weeta-weeta-weet-tee-o" or “tawee-tawee-tawee-tee-o.” A helpful mnemonic to remember is “Richie Rich, I’m right here.” Hooded Warblers live in moist, dark forests. They forage and nest low to the ground and in bushes. Because they can be hard to spot in their dimly lit habitats, they are often heard first before being seen. Only males sing. Interestingly, each individual male sings a slightly different song, and they learn to recognize the songs of nearby birds. Hooded Warblers come to eastern North America in spring to breed.
