Today I’m comparing three NEMO sleeping pads: the NEMO Tensor Trail Insulated, the new NEMO Eclipse All-Season, and the NEMO Quasar 3D Insulated. This is really a comparison between weight, warmth, comfort, and how each pad actually fits into backpacking or camping. The Tensor is the lightest option and still one of my favorite backpacking pads. The Quasar has been one of the most comfortable sleeping pads I’ve used, but it is definitely heavier. The new Eclipse sits right in the middle with a warmer R-value, a thicker sleeping surface, and a better comfort-to-weight balance than I expected. I’ve personally used the Tensor and Quasar for years, and the Eclipse was sent over to me by NEMO for testing. That said, this is still my honest take on where each sleeping pad makes the most sense. If you want the most comfort and don’t care as much about weight, go Quasar. If you want the best mix of warmth, comfort, and backpacking weight, the Eclipse is probably the one to look at.
