Threading the film…
The latest GoPro is a reaI powerhouse in the action cam world - with some pretty stacked specifications and features. But what I was really interested in is if it actually performs as intended. So rather than sitting at a desk talking through every feature, I took the GoPro Mission 1 Pro into the mountains and used it the way I normally would. First up, I headed out mountain biking to see how it performed as an action camera, shooting both POV footage and static shots using GP-Log2 to get a feel for the image quality and grading potential. Next, I took it hiking and camping in the Ring of Steall to see how it worked as a lightweight vlogging camera, keeping everything in the standard colour profile for the simplest possible workflow. Finally, I brought it along to a mountain marathon. A proper stress test where there was no time to think about camera settings, just documenting the day as it happened. Back at the van, I go through my thoughts on the footage, GP-Log2, Open Gate recording, audio quality, battery life, photos, and how this camera will fit into my existing setup. If you're thinking about picking one up, hopefully this gives you a better idea of what it's really like to use away from the marketing material.
