60 people had to be evacuated by helicopter out of Bugaboo Provincial Park only days before our arrival. This meant our plan to climb Pigeon spire had to be scrapped. We did the Asulkan Traverse and climbed Cascade Mountain in hopes that the park would open soon. But of course the park workers were in no rush. So I took a closer look at the closure map, then looked at my other maps, and then realized that there was one option still open to us. We could climb East Post Spire via Cobalt Lake. There was an absence of marked trails between Cobalt Lake and Eastport but looking at the map it appeared possible to climb Eastport by this route and avoid the closure. A text to our helpful local Connor confirmed that this was possible. Also, he had just completed a similar route the day before to a different peak nearby.
