Once again the weather was making the decisions for me. I had plans to climb Switzerlands most difficult Via Ferrata near Leukerbad but it still had too much snow and Lightning was forecasted for the afternoon. So I consulted alpsinsight.com for a route nearby and I came across Dossen peak. With 6300ft of climbing and over 8 miles round trip, the trail had a dash of everything. Waterfalls, glaciers, steep trails, ridge scramble and even a little via ferrata. Pretty much a perfect day out in the Bernese Oberland except for the forecasted thunderstorms. I didn’t fancy being caught with a metal cable in my hand on a high mountain ridge when the lightning began. However, the storm wasn’t forecasted until 4pm and I had just done the Hardergrat the day before so my legs were fresh. I decided to go for it and told myself I would turn around at the first sign of a thunder storm. The storm did materialize and it became a monster but fortunately I was clear of the mountain when its full fury descended.
