This is becoming an increasingly common sight in the Nilgiris. Known for its mist-covered hills and breathtaking landscapes, the Nilgiris are much more than a popular travel destination. They are one of India's most treasured natural landscapes, where forests, grasslands, and countless species come together to form a thriving ecosystem. But as forests become increasingly fragmented due to expanding human development and unmanaged waste becomes more accessible and piling up, sloth bears are being drawn closer to human settlements in search of food, increasing the risk of human-sloth bear conflict. The Wildlife SOS Nilgiris Conservation Project is working to restore habitats, strengthen coexistence, and protect the future of sloth bears in the Nilgiris.
