Walking with a backpack for four hours teaches kids a different kind of math, science and teamwork.

On trek, they’re counting river crossings, reading the weather, pacing their breath on a climb, and figuring out how to keep a friend’s spirits up when the trail gets tough. They learn how to pack light but think ahead, how to listen to instructions and then trust themselves, how to share space, snacks and stories with people they’ve just met.
