It is hard to make sense of the many different techniques and ideas in the sporting world. Especially in skiing because it is an open sport. There are many ways you can make a turn. So how do you deal with opposing feedback from different coaches or friends? How do you make sense of seemingly opposing opinions? One way is to not think about which is RIGHT and which is WRONG but instead think about what each movement creates as an outcome. - What does this lead to? - Are there times when this might be a useful movement to make? - Are there times when it makes skiing harder? - Can I work out clues in the environment that help me decide which technique or movement will work best for me? If you are a coach you can guide your students to trying all possible ways of developing a skill. For example pole plant timing could be trained by trying to plant before the edge change, at the edge change or after the edge change. The skier will learn how timing changes the cross over into the new turn. Rather than one so called “right way” the learner has experienced that there are just different outcomes. This is far more powerful and allows skiers to learn through experience. This then leads to better in the moment decision making especially under pressure. 🎿 Want the lesson I don't put on YouTube?
