How to choose if a Hard Shell or Soft Shell is best for you

You don’t really think about your shell… until you pick the wrong one.  We’ve had days where a hardshell made all the difference, wind, snow, exposure, and no room for error.  That “bombproof” feeling matters when conditions turn. But on longer tours, it’s a different story. That’s where softshells come in, more breathable, easier to keep on all day, and less of that constant layering cycle. It’s not about which one is better.
