This adventure I'm in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for two days of exploring on and off the trail. The first day runs the Rio Grande Trail north toward town, with side trips up to old mineshafts, a long shelf road, and one section that turned me around. The second day is spent walking the streets of one of the strangest small towns in America, a place that traded its name to a radio show in 1950, sits on top of geothermal hot springs the Apache held sacred for centuries, and still has a faded Fallout Shelter sign on the post office. There's more to this stretch of New Mexico than the name suggests.
