📍West Hartford Reservoir - West Hartford, Connecticut Offering a large network of trails, beautiful architecture and stunning water views, it’s no wonder that the West Hartford Reservoirs are one of the area’s most popular recreation destinations. The West Hartford Reservoirs and Reservoir 6 are part of the Metropolitan District Hartford, Connecticut (MDC). These are the sites water treatment facilities with plenty of trails surrounding them. There are over 3,000 acres of paved paths for walkers, bikers and runners and dirt trails that go through wooded areas. See the MDC website for trail maps. Take the red loop for an easy 3.4 miles or the 2 mile yellow loop. Some trails connect with the Metacomet Trail. This is another excellent accessible trail for folks with limited mobility or strollers. Hartford Reservoir 6 is part of the MDC and is just a short drive away. See my previous reel! If you’re looking for solitude, this might not be the place for you. The parking lots fill up on the weekends and the paved paths are full of people. The trails through the woods are significantly less crowded, however.
