Bill and Mike are here with our first episode of Paddleboarding Fact or Fiction? to answer that question. And the verdict is... it depends! For the vast majority of paddlers there is no difference between the performance and stability of an inflatable and hard SUP for all-around or even touring and fitness use. However, surfers will still feel a noticeable performance improvement with a hard board, and whitewater paddlers will have a much better time on an inflatable. Even racing has seen the gap in performance between hard and inflatable boards drop to nearly zero. Ultimately, the difference comes down to the overall shape and quality of any board you may be using. Watch the episode to hear our detailed breakdowns by paddle board type, other considerations, and side-by-side comparison videos to learn why there's no clear winner in the biggest debate in stand up paddleboarding. Bill Dawes has been coaching SUP at all levels for 15 years, during which time he has built up a vast amount of knowledge and experience in understanding how to teach the sport.
